nine times out of ten i wear wellies, purely for that reason. i like to stand in the water when im landing a fish and especially when i am releasing it. it may not be completely neccessary but i enjoy...

Boots, wellies, or waders, it all depends on where you are fishing. Sandals in the summer in one swim I know.
